A year ago I inherited my grandfather's 1972 kona jet boat. He bought the boat in 1983 with out a motor. I believe he had it together and in the water in the late 1980s. This is the boat of my childhood. Needless to say I'm one excited boat owner. However I don't know much about the boat. Just stories as a kid and what my grandfather would tell all the grandkids.
Here is what I do know. It has an Olds 455 and a Berkley pump with jet o vator. At some point the boat was painted in its life.
The story we were always told is that the boat originally came with a 352? Or 354 blown hemi. My grandfather always wanted to put that motor back in it. But never found one to do it. I doubt that would be cost effective today. One can dream though.
So the boat resides in Michigan. I have permanent storage for it. I live in NC, but with my job I get to play with it for a few weeks during the summer. So I will pick a small project for it each time I go to MI. This year was just going over it and seeing what needs attention.
The boat was run this 4th of July for the first time in 4 years. When I got it I changed fluids in the motor and checked hoses and fittings. Boat ran great all week.
Can you tell me more about the boat and what I should expect from it.
Trying to up load photos from my phone is more challenging than I thought.. I'll update this with pictures soon!
