    1969 Sanger

Just picked up my 1969 Sanger today and towed it to my uncle's house. The boat has been sitting for 25 years in a horse pasture. The old owner got into drugs and started pulling parts off to sell for drugs. After he died 5 or 10 years ago, the boat continued to sit and rot. The guys mother told her son's friend that she needed him to get rid of everything in her yard. Whatever he sold, he could keep the money for payment. I offered him $450 for it and he took it. The hull came with the tandem trailer, complete manual cavitation plate, motor mounts, polished aluminum gas caps and deck mounted tach housing, 10 degree split case Cassale v-drive that still rotates as smooth as butter, a brass rutter, and the steering is hall-craft cable/pulley system.

Now the bad news...I found dry-rot in the stringers at the motor mounts, on the back side of the dash, and down the left side cap rail. Otherwise the boat is structurally solid. Any suggestions on how to fix the stringers would be greatly appreciated. I will post a bunch of pics tomorrow.

Grinder and fiberglass. Pretty much SOP for a deal! But, what else do we have to do.

Not too difficult. Cut the stringers out. Leave a little lip at the hull to set the new stringer in so you have it in the right spot. Then just fiberglass in. I'll be doing my bulkheads and toe boards.

its best to build a stand or dolly that will retain the bottom shape of the hull before you start cutting out the stringers. if the stringer are intact carefully cut them out flush with the floor to use as a pattern for the new ones. sometimes its best to replace one then the other so you have one to reference off from.
