Already switched to electronic ignition. No capacitor. Top of my list is ignition timing though. Seems as though trial and error is really the only right answer. Either way I’ll be having fun on the water.

What I thought was carb and or maybe pump problems on my old (not Olds) motor was simply the capacitor. Cheap and easy test before tearing the motor down again.

And it does go straight to 4400. This one is hard because I’m describing a feel/sound. It isn’t struggling to get to 4400, but it feels (to me) like it’s unhappy about doing so. This leads me to really only be comfortable running it around 3500. in my other boat which has a pretty mild 454. 5200RPM all day long and smooth and happy doing so. I realize they are very different engines. But given the time, money and care I’ve got into this 455, I’d like to think it’s capable of pushing that 400hp mark.

Brand new Holley double pumper with mechanical secondary. So I doubt it needs to be cleaned yet. All good suggestions, I will be checking everything under the sun once the sun actually shows up.

Perhaps you misread or I misspoke. It’ll run 4400 to 4500RPM. So unless I’m looking at the wrong chart, that’s 326hp and 380 ft/lbs torque with an A cut impeller.

If the primary jet was too small, wouldn’t it run lean? And perhaps it is but everything points to it running slightly on the rich side. i can hardly wait for summer!!!

I wouldn’t say you are wrong. I would say I wish I had done exactly that.
