  • A Little Serious For A Change

Need a little help. I good friend of mine's 14 year old daughter is in the hospital in So. Cal. They found a tumor on her brain stem. They did surgery today and found it to be wrapped around and entwined too much to continue without knowing what kind of tumor as the doctor didn't want to do any harm if it was benign . If it's cancerous, which the doctor seems to think, they'll go back in to get as much as they can and then start radiation treatments.
Those of you with any religious belief, please say a prayer, and those of you without, at least keep her in your thoughts.

Thanks gang. I love the family I have here!!!
I couldn't even begin to imagine what they are going through. I know how hard it was to lose a brother and a father, but to have to face something like this with a child? Has to be the worst thing a person could ever go through.

Things are going well. They've done surgery and have been able to remove most of the tumor. It didn't engulf the brain stem so that was good, but it is engulfed around the ear. They have since moved to Seattle which has a very good department for this. The doctors say they have never seen a tumor like this in a young girl, but they are very, very optimistic.

They are doing radiation treatment and the remaining tumor has been shrinking.

Thanks again for all the support, thoughts, and prayers.

I had a CG brother Senior Chief stationed with me in San Juan back in '88. He had a daughter in college that had a brain tumor in behind her eyes I think. If I remember right, it had spread about and was in-operable. He retired and I lost touch so don't know the outcome. She and a friend flew down to visit for a week (probably spring break) and she was a very intelligent, sweet person. It was heart breaking. There are several new treatments now, so hope Kaitlyn can beat it.
Just think, if we took all the money we use shootin towel heads and put it into curing cancer and other terrible diseases....

We actually do. The problem is that we spend even more treating it. Makes you wonder if they really want to cure it.
