  • SWTD to Utah

So as many have seen in some of the posts, Doug has been so good as to negotiate a deal with Jill on one of his SWTD. This is something I've wanted for three decades. My dream came true this past weekend. I can't thank Doug and Jill enough. As well as Steve and David for delivering it to Wendover.
As you can tell by my many ramblings, I am very ecstatic about this new addition to our armada.

It is now along side the house under cover, and has had a bath. The next thing is to start the full on restoration by removing the paint. While washing it down I notices some flaking paint. It looked to be a red metal flake on the bow. By the gas fill I found a blue metal flake. I'm really anxious now to strip down the rest to see what's under the paint. If I am correct, it'll be something like this.

If this is how it came from Southwind, I may just have to put it back!!

    So now it begins.

Thanks again to all my new found brothers with VJB!!!

Looked the boat over in Wendover while parked @ the Montego! Thought it was headed for Cali when I saw the plate on the red Chevy with all the VJB stickers! Think I saw David and hollered his name as he walked by but he didn't even look, since the guy was wearing a Utah Utes shirt I figured it must not have been him so I didn't chase him down, Did the brown trailer come to UT as well? Guess I should have checked the parking lot again when I split, would have like to met up! Glad the boat found a good home! Did those boats come with the pump set back? Congrats Wolfie!

Don't think any of us was wearing a Ute's shirt that day. You must have gotten there right before we rolled up. The brown trailer went to Rory.
The SWTD had a lengthened pod out the back. While it looks like a setback, it's actually in the stock position. Some of the guys have sectioned half of the pods off which would also make it look like it was set back.

Wish you would have caught us all. Would have been nice to meet you as well.

I was looking all around the Montego for anyone wearing VJB hat or shirt, Maybe you were in the restaraunt ??? Both rigs were there. I went back over to the Nugget for a hour or so and split, got home around 5.

No blower right off. A nice healthy engine. nothing more than 700HP. I'm shooting for high 80s' low 90's. Hoping to meet up with my cousin Buzz this weekend while we're in So Cal. Maybe getting some tips on making these things move.
Down the road once I get use to it and get the set up, maybe something a little more. I was talking with Tim the other day. Hopefully get some tips from him too.

When we were down for my S-I-L's wedding we took a little side trip over to my cousin's. For those that don't know, his wife's father owned Southwind Boats before selling it to Bill. He gave me some advice for a few things. One was using regular paint remover to take the paint off. I guess it won't hurt Gel Coat if the gel is in decent shape. I found a few areas in the past where the paint was flaking and got excited to see some of the gel. As I took some of the paint down to the gel, it looks as though it has the metallic red, white(silver flake) and blue paint scheme with a white deck. Too bad it was some old paint remover as it didn't work very well. Here's some bad pictures of what I found. Now I'm even more excited. Guess I'll be stopping by Home Depot on my way to work to buy some new paint remover!!
