View Full Version : Ultimate Tow Rig

Sad day yesterday - traded my BMW :frown: for the ultimate tow rig for a vintage jet! Pic of both vehicles, my Dad (red shirt) and the gentleman who owned the GMC. Still unsure if it was a good deal; she def has something worn in the steering system 'cause she was all over the road over 65mph. The interior is in really nice shape, just needs cleaning and a few minor repairs. Fridge (10+cf!) needs a new board; runs fine on 110 but won't run on propane unless you tweak the board, prob just a cold solder.
Once I get a few other minor mechanical things worked out, it should be pretty cool towing the '78 CV23 with a '78 GMC 26' Royale!
Has a rebuilt Olds 403/TH425; hopefully I won't have any launch ramp issues because she's front wheel drive.

Those are nice RVs, http://www.gmcmotorhome.com/clubs/ lots of clubs. My dad had one when I was a teenager and we would haul the boat with it. If memory serves me right they do tend to wander a bit, but they ride nice with the airbags. Enjoy! :like:

Here's a few interior pics

The horrible, faded-to-pinkish drapes need to go. Will replace them with day/night shades. Needs a drop-in stove as well. Nice, real walnut cabinets and woodwork.

Well, sold the GMC. I was on the fence about spending ~$500 on adding a hitch. The front wheel drive would probably be OK at most ramps to pull the CV23 out of the water, but some ramps are shorter and steeper and may cause problems due to the weight shift off the front end. The Mrs was also not a big fan of the interior layout.
So, I'll be picking up another motorhome tomorrow. 1985 34' Gulf Stream Sun Stream w/49k miles. 454 with Banks Power Pack, 4-wheel discs with hydroboost, hydraulic levelers, nearly new fridge and water heater; new coil springs & airbags up front. Wood flooring in living area, and about 4x the living area compared to the GMC. Not a bad deal for $3700!

Also found a deal on a pair of jetskis. The Yamaha will go on my 2-place trailer and be sold. My '95 Kawi 750ST will be right at home next to the Ultra 150. The Ultra should be a mover at 145hp! At $1800 for the pair, I couldn't pass it up.

Nice Score! My Dad had one of the GMC Motorhomes. Still had the Orange Shag carpet installed! LOL
