well we have a 1974 dimarco 18ft v drive that me and my dad are building. we have owned this boat for about a year. we bought it at the Pomona car show for $1800 along with a one car garage floor full of all the parts that go with the boat. the boat has new gel coat that was done by the previous owners. the trailer needs help, we are going to have it sandblasted buy new stainless steel fenders and powder coat the trailer black. we already bought a brand new 496 592 hp and 597 tq from blueprint engines out of the jegs catalog along with 2 600 carbs, msd ignition system, tunnel ram, a fluidampener, a starter, tci flexplate, rewarder upswept headers witch we ceramic coated black

Very cool!!! Good for you guys!!!
Just a question on the engine you ordered through Jegs. Is it machined for marine use?

millerboy74
09-25-2012, 03:16 PM
thanks.
we know it not machined for marine use.we know thats a mistake on our part.

wolfie

thanks.

Not really a big mistake......Just a little time to take it apart and have the pistons machined. Not a big deal. Cost you a little time, machining and balancing, and some new gaskets. Be worth it. Just my opinion. THere's others here that know a heck of a lot more than I and can maybe redirect you or add to what I've said.

X2 Since I'll never be able to afford gel coat to be done. I sure would like to see it being applied!

Talking to my cousin this past weekend, Gel Coat is very forgiving. Not cheap to have someone do, but it's easier for a DIY supposedly than painting a boat. I can't confirm this, but that's what I was told.

parts update my dad bought this from a guy at work for $500 for everything now just imagine it powdercoated black 7237

wolfie
10-24-2012, 11:36 AM
Don't powder coat it black!!! Leave it polished......Think of how hot that thing will get in the sun if black. You want cold. Besides, it'll look a lot better.

millerboy74
10-24-2012, 11:56 AM
we kinda want it to look like the guys tunnel ram that we bought the headers from
7238

wolfie
10-24-2012, 01:35 PM
Look good. Probably easier to keep clean.

were making are own rail kit .ok so im looking at the strut plate support. the original piece was only a singal piece of aluminum but the previous owners made it so it has 2 pieces of aluminum what im wondering what is the point of the change.752475257526752775287529

wolfie

Looks good. I had thought of making my own rail kit as well. What gauge aluminum are you using?

78_Tahiti
11-11-2012, 01:12 AM
Sure looks like a very solid foundation! Nice work!

millerboy74
11-15-2012, 03:02 AM
wolfie: i dont know my dad pick this while i was gone one day and hasnt told me what gauge it was. thankyou.

78_tahiti: thankyou

so i got a little bored when it was raining last week and since i could doing anything to the boat cause of were it sits i decided to see what this motor would look like half together

fkaracing
11-15-2012, 06:32 AM
What headers are those? They look GREAT :like: I am digging your look on that engine. I am thinking about going all black and gunmetal grey on my set up in my Sleekcraft, think those colors would look sinister. I love the big nasty chrome motor set ups but really debating about this instead.

millerboy74
11-15-2012, 08:40 AM
the badge on them say cyclone custom racing headers. thankyou. the main reason why i want it all black is because i hate polishing.

wolfie
11-15-2012, 10:10 AM
The engine is looking good. I did the same with Jill...At some point you just get a little too anxious and have to get a look at what you're trying to achieve.
I like those upswept headers. I'm thinking of going in that direction with the SWTD.

millerboy74
11-15-2012, 10:26 AM
thank you. WAIT swtd? southwind tunnel dragster lucky!!! thats one of the two boats that i have to own to get off my bucket list

Yes I am lucky. I'm lucky to have a very good friend hook me up with it (thanks again Doug), and a wonderful wife that negotiated it, and two really good friends that helped bring it to me (Steve and David).

buy a turd intake if you're going to cover one up. that looks great the way it is, but I like shiny things.

The dolly is almost done just need to finish one side then carpet the bunks then bolt them on
overall height 23" trailer is 20"
Overall width 37" trailer is 41"
Then after that comes the challenge to clean under our awning so the boat can fit under their785978577858

millerboy74
12-03-2012, 03:46 PM
so over the weekend i put the carpet on the bunks and showed my dad the holley ultra hp 750 and he said to order them. after the first time we start the engine i get to order them and the 600's will be passed down to my project boat (the miller). the 450's on that will be passed down to the parts crate7918791979207921

Good looking stuff. If the shiny didn't work with the desired look of boat Think I would get it powder coated. It's only money!! HeHe!!

David

Trailer is a little rough around the edges... Doesn't do the boat justice for sure...

wolfie
02-04-2013, 11:56 AM
If the trailer turns out like the boat, it'll be killer too!

Next time we visit the in-law's, we'll definitely have to look you up since you're in the same general area!

not much of an update but when to the nieghbors and got some pieces this boat came with 2 shafts they are the same diameter but different lengths were going to have the strut, skag, and rudder nickel plated 10234then as you can see i put the old rails back in1023210231then im lookking at the back of the boat and notice all the cavitation rod holes are starting to crack and chip even the deck is starting to crack. Just from sitting?!?!?!. cheap gelcoat???10233 so while the casale is just siting in the parts room its starting to leak oil then we took the steering to get rebuilt at gs marine.

Sleek Freak
05-20-2013, 07:06 PM
nice project. just a FYI plating makes it hard to see any stress cracks on parts. but it does look great.

millerboy74
05-22-2013, 02:57 PM
went back over to the neighbors and got the throttle pedal and cavitation rod assembly. cant make up our minds though on powder coat blue pillow blocks and black backplate or the opposite1024710246

dang has it really been 10 months since ive posted anything on this thing. well anyways they had a sandblaster at work today so we took the trailer to work and gave the guy $50 to sandblast the trailer after work. i think he could have done a better job but it work and better than having to remove all of that paint that was on their. then on the way home the bolt that hold the leaf spring to the shackle came out so we went five miles like this

"THE ADVOCATE"
02-19-2014, 06:28 PM
Even a little sand blasting will save you a ton of time. Good score. As far as the all thread, put a nut on it and call it good! LOL
