I thought I'd swing by here and share my boat with you guys, as I see some of you are aristocrat fans (which is bizarre since nobody around here even knows what it is)!

Long story short, I picked up this boat for $1000 back in 2010, but it was a complete basketcase. Interior garbage, floor/stringer both rotten, gauges junk, needed to redo everything. So I did. My budget with materials at this point is a tad under 5 grand, and I'm pretty happy with that. It was definitely a "budget" build... I pulled the carpet out of a dumpster, I did EVERYTHING myself, and I borrowed an engine alignment tool from a generous member of OSO, I had a friend over to help me time the engine, I scoured CL, ebay, and amazon for materials (wire. Lots of wire), but I think she turned out pretty good. My build thread over at OSO has about 38k views, and I was also featured on build-threads.com (which was really HUGE for me. The project itself was really rewarding but to get that kind of attention was awesome!). Check em out:

Here's what she looked like when I started, it had been sitting outside for a few years, so everything was trashed:

It was a long project (about 1 year of working on it) but I pretty much know everything about restoring a boat now, other than painting. :)

I have a couple videos on youtube, you can check them out here:

Cheers guys! And save as many aristocrats as you can, they are BY FAR the best looking boats around. I'm sure others are faster, but none look sexier. Save one if you can! :D

Looks good, I have to admit I think that is the only one I have seen with a early Merc set up.. I think that hull would work good with a Blackhawk surface drive.

I'm also the admin of the sleekcraft group on facebook, I try to upload as much sleek info as I can. Aristocrats were offered with merc setups, they were actually more expensive than the jets:

Nice setup. I think I saw your build over on another site. I was kind of perplexed as to the why there was a water pump on the engine until I saw the picture with the outdrive...LOL.... It's a really nice boat! Welcome to VJB.

I don't know about 'the sexiest', but its the first time I've seen one, and it is a very cool and unique boat. I am also biased toward custom windshields, and that shield is WAY cool!!! Very sweet indeed jet or not... :like:

You did a good job bringing it back to life, Bruce would have been happy to see it.. The merc package would have been more in retail the merc package was (is) alot more than a jet pack, the boat itself is the only merc #1 drive boat I can remember have fun with it keep it in the 50-60 mph area and do not try and put any real hp to it the X dim is off and that prop is real low any power will buck you out and put you in the drink real quick.

Aristocrats are one of my favs. I seen your thread on the other site also. the only thing I dislike with a foot type drive is the height of the engine. yours is looking good.

What do you mean by X dim? It's off? ???

When the hull was originally designed it was never intended for a stern drive, so there really is not enough freeboard in the hull to have a good X dim for the stern drive. In easy terms that prop is real low in comparison to the bottom of the hull, and you really cant raise the engine to get a good prop centerline your gimbal would be above the transom to do that. But with low power the boat will work great with the drive set up put any power to it and the hull will raise to a point where it is prop walking basically just running on the prop with no wet surface to controll any form of hull roll can make for a hell of a ride... I had a Donzi 22 classic that at 99-105 mph depending on water conditions would start to prop walk the engine came out soon after..

It is so nice to have another very knowledgeable member!!! We need you to move down near us!!! But then, we'd probably be bothering you all the time! I keep trying to get Steve to move out here, but he and Deb won't do it!!

a few sleeks where built and raced with stern drives. but like CPM said to set them up for speed required the engine to set higher in the hull.
to me that trashed the sleek bodylines that makes the boat.

Ill have to do some digging the pic might be lost.... But I had a pic of a stern Aristocrat Bruce wanted to race at Long Beach Marine Stadium I would say late 70's and the engine was set so high they had a aluminum plate bolted to the transom for a mount... the original pic use to hang on the wall behind Candy's desk in the lobby, Verry cool time period with Bob Leach Brian Davidson Bob Burns (yea cheap *** cheetah bob actually raced) and Bruce.... and good old Rudy Raymos with his Raysoncraft...
