View Full Version : Is a panther in a 79 Tahiti a deal breaker?

Looking at a beautiful 79 totally original Tahiti that's been unbelievably maintained but it has a Panther. Have videos etc & owner never has problems. What do you think? Other than what I read- don't know much about them.

Unless you are planning on putting a blower motor in it and drag racing then the answer is NO! Panthers are tough very reliable pumps that will cruise you right around 60mph all day. Lets see the vid!!!

It would be a deal killer for me. A berk you can replace the wear ring....panthers thats not an option. I had a tahiti with a panther.
Off memory ran close to 60 at about 5900 r's. After bolting on an energizer kit I picked up about 9mph and dropped the r's about 600.
Thats a pretty significant difference IMO. Keep in mind I made zero other changes to the boat or motor.
