Hi all I'm new to the forum and live all the way down in sunny Australia I've just been gifted a fiberglass jetboat Now it has no brands or model number that I can see It does however have a doen jet unit dj81 fitted to it and and since fittings for a gm 202cu inline 6 Just wondered if anyone would be able to shed some light on what the model and make of the hull could be as I'm looking for some parts like the front screen and other odd and ends Thanks

Yes Sir, loving every minute of it. They’ll run that thing all day like that and then toss a nice rooster tail on the way to the beach. Check out how they start.

Have you actually priced out one of those Wake board boats??? You can easily toss out $140k reaaaal fast. And those boats are sloooooow as heck!! 45 at WOT!!! A $18,000 Wave Runner can do 94mph out of the box, and still tow a skier! I think about all those ski boat companies that spent millions in R&D to make a flat smooth wake...now those same boat companies are raking in millions to undo everything they did in the first place!! :confused-smiley-013 Did I miss something here?? JMHO...

Or I could convince the kids that a VJB can do just as good as a much more expensive Wake boat. The best part is seeing the look on the face of those that chose to spend all that coin on a boat that doesnít have a kick ass Rooster!!!

Yep, a good course sanded finish everywhere you want fresh glass to stick. Clean well with Acetone before fresh glass. If you find you have a few areas that you can’t get sanded well, like corners. Use laquer thinner instead as it’ll cut into the old glass a little better. Be sure to give that a little more time to dry. A good rough and clean surface is crucial to achieving a good mechanical bond.

Nothing in brochures here about Silverados, back in the day lots of small shops cloned hulls from some of the larger So Cal manufactures and called them their own so its not uncommon to come up zero on history on these old floats. The KSL pics looked like it was pretty clean but only an up close in person inspection will tell the truth. A lot more info about the hull can get gleaned from the HIN number as well. It is on the starboard side top of the transom or on the owners registration, a quick text should get it

Also on a plus side I got most of the remaining floor and stringer out as well as the fuel tanks. I just now need to figure out how to get this piece of wood out that one of the previous owners put in to separate the bow from the rest of the boat then so itís on to sanding. Do I just need to sand down to good fiberglass before I start putting in the stringer and floors?

The 4th was hard on the BBO. Had a Valve seat drop due to an intake gasket breach. Lesson learned, hot and cold don’t mix well.

They are over the transom headers and they look to have water injection

Just to be sure we don’t confuse the issue. Are you going to be running OT headers with water injection? Or will you be running wet logs with snails? OT headers you can control the water.

the only reason i was doing stuff to the motor is im going to have to send it to the machine shop and the 3 out the the 8 pistons have broken the top ring land. So i dont have to rebuild the motor more than once i was figuring to go to a reasonably built motor. im not looking to build anything more than 500hp currently i just wanted to have a bottom end that could take more power if this turns out be something i get a thing for then i figured it would be easier to just replace the the top end and not have to deal with the bottom end again. As for the jet pump I dont know anything about those really so for now i was going to leave it alone. I was planning to just check the bearings if they dont have much play in them i was going to leave them be. If all that seems like a bad idea just let me know again this is my first jet boat and first restoration of a boat so i very well could be going at it wrong. The whole thing about keeping the exhaust went over my head i was planning on leaving them alone till i figured that those out. I did not know there was a way to adjust when the headers got water and when they didnt

Lets remember that this is a first build for a new owner. Run the boat as stock as you can, then go crazy on your build. First it will give you an actual baseline for what you want out of the hull, second it will find hidden problems before you spend extra money on bling that you might not need! Its a never ending process but there is no substitute, if the hull checks out you made a good purchase
